Maryland Looks For Win No. 4 Against American Wednesday

College Park, Md. - Injury-ridden and looking for their first home win of the season, the Maryland men's soccer team (3-4, 1-1 ACC) meets American (2-3-1, 0-0-1 CAA) Wednesday at 5 p.m. as the first part of a doubleheader, which also features the Terrapin women's team against George Mason at 7:30 p.m. Maryland has won the past two meetings with American. The Terrapins' conference match-up this week features Maryland travelling to Wake Forest (3-2-2, 0-1 ACC) on Sunday, Oct. 1, for a 1 p.m. tilt. Please note that the game was moved from Sept. 30, and will be played Sunday because of a conflict with a football game on the Wake Forest campus on Saturday.
The Maryland/American Series
The Terrapins lead American 13-9-5 in the all-time series. Maryland won last year's game 4-1 at American, and was paced by two goals from senior Jason Sardis (New Hyde Park, N.Y.), and three assists each from junior co-captain Nick Downing (Redmond, Wash.), and current Bundesliga member Taylor Twellman (1998-99). The Terrapins' last loss to American came in the 1997 NCAA tournament when the Terps were ousted by the Eagles 1-0 in Washington, D.C. That loss was the second of the `97 season to American, as the Terps were outscored 3-1 in the regular season tilt, also held at AU. Maryland head coach Sasho Cirovski 4-3-1 is against American since his arrival in College Park in 1993.
American Comes to Ludwig, Tajini Returns for First Game Against Terps
The Eagles are lead by Adam Rosen who has three goals and two assists this season, but perhaps the biggest AU story concerns defender Bob Brennan. The senior co-captain separated his shoulder against Princeton, and could be lost for the season. He will most likely not make an appearance in the game against the Terrapins on Wednesday. Junior transfer Nouf Tajini joined the Eagles this season after spending 1999 on the Terrapins roster. Tajini suffered an injury early in the season, and that combined with a host of veterans on the American roster has religated the Moroccan native to a small amount of playing time through six games. He has played in only one game, and has taken two shots for American this year.
Maryland's Cirovski Celebrates 200 Against Amreican
Entering his eighth year at Maryland, head coach Sasho Cirovski has compiled a 93-54-14 (.621) record. A 1988 graduate of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Cirovski owns a 119-66-14 (.633) through his first nine years of head coaching. Cirovski sits just seven wins away from the 100-win plateau at Maryland. He has 14 or more wins in each of his last six seasons. The Terps' game with American marks the 200th game Cirovski has coached in his career.
