COLLEGE PARK, Md.- Maryland head volleyball coach Janice Kruger announced today the signing of Rachel Wagener to a national letter of intent to play for the Terps beginning in 2002. Wagener, a 6-4 middle hitter from Chesapeake, Virginia, will be a welcomed addition to the front line for the Terps.
"Rachel will give us a substantial presence in the middle for us with her size and athletic ability," commented Kruger. "She will be the tallest player to play for Maryland since my arrival to campus in 1988 and we are very excited to have a commitment from such an impact player."
Wagener was named district player of the year to go along with first-team all-region and all-Tidewater honors as a junior at Oscar Smith High School. Wagener was also named team MVP as a junior and was captain of her high school squad.
