COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Junior co-captain Gillian Cote (Fredericksburg, Va.) won the all-around with a team season-high 39.425 as the University of Maryland women's gymnastics team defeated James Madison 195.800-191.225. Maryland's score is the highest for the team this season.
In addition to winning the all-around, Cote placed first on vault with a 9.825, first on the uneven bars with a 9.900, and second on the floor exercise with a 9.925. Cote placed third on beam with a 9.775, tying with freshman Sarah Hoenig (Seaford, N.Y.) and junior Kit Johnson (Virginia Beach, Va.). Freshman Rachel Sibert (Austin, Texas) tied with Cote for first place on vault with a 9.825.
Senior co-captain Jill Fisher (Huntington, N.Y.) won the floor exercise with a team season-high 9.950. Fisher also placed first on beam with a 9.850 and third in the all-around with a 38.400. Placing second in the all-around was junior Lisa Mealey (Bensalem, Pa.) who also placed second on bars with a 9.875 and on beam with a 9.825.
Nicole Bascope had a solid evening for the James Madison Dukes, scoring a 38.375 in the all-around. Bascope's score is a personal season-high. Also scoring well for the Dukes was Carri Elder, scoring a 9.800 to tie with Mealey for third place on floor.
As a team, the Terrapins earned season-highs on vault with a 48.850, on beam with a 49.000 and on floor with a 49.225. Not only is Maryland's team score of 195.800 a season-high, but it is also the third-highest team score ever.
Tonight's meet improves Maryland's record to 5-7. The Terrapins will return to Ritchie Coliseum in College Park, Md., on Sunday, March 11, to take on the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers. Starting time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
