Women's Tennis Downs ACC Foe, NC State, 6-1

RALEIGH, N.C.-The University of Maryland women's tennis team clinched their last game of the 2002 regular season, with a 6-1 victory over NC State. The Terps end the season at the .500 mark, with a 10-10 overall record. Maryland finished 2-6 against ACC opponents, their other win coming over Florida State.
Maryland swept all three doubles matches. At the No. 1 spot, Delila Causevic and Emily Marker defeated Katrina Gildemeister and Kristen Nicholls, 8-3. Freshman Emily DeCamilla and junior Marta Jedrzejak eliminated Myrna Bawono and Jennifer Jassawalla by the score of 8-5. Senior Pamela Floro and sophomore Chloe Chavardes defeated N.C. State's Loni Worsley and Danielle Staddelmann, 8-6.
The Terps fought hard on the singles end as well, winning five of six matches. Causevic, Floro and Jedrzejak all won three set matches over their Wolfpack opponents. Causevic downed Gildemeister, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. Floro defeated Nicholls, 1-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4 and Jedrzejak downed Jassawalla, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1. Marker and DeCamilla notches straight set wins. Marker also recorded Maryland's sole singles win against Wake Forest yesterday. Chavardes was unable to beat Staddelmann, falling 6-4, 7-6 (4).
The Terps will travel later this week to Raleigh, N.C. for the ACC Championships, which last from April 18-21. The tournament will be held at the Millbrook Exchange Tennis Center and official pairings will be announced by the ACC on Tuesday.
