COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Kevin Anderson announced Friday that associate athletic director for media relations Doug Dull will step down from his current position with the University of Maryland this summer to open a sports communications consulting firm.
"I would like to thank Doug for his tremendous service to his alma mater for the past nine years; he has done an outstanding job and has personally helped me in my transition to Maryland," Anderson said. "Doug's passion for the University, the profession and his institutional knowledge have been invaluable. I am excited for Doug and wish him well in his new professional endeavor and I am glad that he will continue to work closely with Maryland Athletics as a consultant in his new role."
Dull has been with the Maryland athletics department for nine years and will resign his position effective July 6. He will be continuing a career in the college sports industry that has spanned 23 years.
Anderson also announced that Dull will continue to advise the department on communications and media-relations issues, as well as providing editorial and logistical support for many of the department's special events in his new consulting role.
"I'm excited about this new chapter in my career," Dull said. "I have appreciated the opportunity to work at my alma mater and have been thrilled to work with some of the best professionals in college sports, from our coaches to the local and national media.
"Being able to have Maryland Athletics as the flagship client in my new endeavor is also tremendously exciting. I look forward to my phone ringing early and often over the next few years."
A former sports writer and editor at the Hagerstown Herald-Mail, Dull has also been the sports information director at Chico State, UC Davis and Kansas State.
The national search for Dull's successor will begin immediately, Anderson said.
