
Terps Set to Host Drexel Saturday

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland men's wrestling team (2-4, 0-1 Big Ten) will return to the XFINITY Center Pavilion this Saturday, December 5 for a dual match with Drexel University. First match is slated for 5:00 pm.

Setting the staGe
- Maryland is coming off a 1-1 weekend at the Grapple at the Garden Tournament this past weekend. The Terps dropped their first bout to No. 12 Illinois 34-9, before bouncing back with a 24-13 victory over Hofstra to wrap up the day.
- Maryland got some revenge on Hofstra after dropping a 29-12 decision to the Pride at last season's Grapple at the Garden.
- Freshman Wade Hodges (149) posted back-to-back victories for the Terps vs. Kyle Langenderfer (Illinois) and Ryan Burkert (Hofstra) at the event. Hodges notched his first collegiate pin over Burkert at 2:25, and is now 3-2 on the season.
- Fellow freshman Jaron Smith also notched his first career fall vs. the No. 12 Illini, stunning No. 18 Jeff Koepke with a pin in the second period. After a competitive opening frame, Smith took advantage of a Koepke mistake and turned it into a flash pin at 3:22.
- Freshman Tyler Goodwin is currently ranked 18th in the country in the 133 lb. weight class via the latest InterMat Wrestling NCAA rankings published on December 1. Goodwin holds a 4-2 overall record on the season.
- Senior Lou Mascola is off to a quality start in 2015, holding a 6-1 overall record and 4-1 mark in dual matches. Mascola's lone loss this season was to defending NCAA Champion and No. 1 ranked Isaiah Martinez of Illinois.
- Freshman Brendan Burnham delivered the Terps' biggest surprise in Iowa City on November 20 when he took out the Hawks' Burke Paddock, 9-5. Burnham turned in a 1-1 record on Sunday, picking up a 4-2 victory over Hofstra's Bobby Fehr.
- This year's senior class has a combined 239 career individual victories with 74 dual wins.

- Drexel enters Friday's contest 3-4 on the season and 0-1 in the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA).
- The Dragons were also in action alongside Maryland at the Grapple at the Garden this past weekend, going 1-1 on the day. Drexel's win was an impressive one, as the team took down No. 20 ranked Northwestern 21-20 with a come-from-behind victory. The Dragons dropped their second match of the afternoon to No. 12 Illinois 31-9.
- Redshirt junior Matthew Cimato (149) was awarded Outstanding Wrestler honors after he defeated both the top-ranked 149 pounder in the country in Jason Tsirtsis of Northwestern and No. 19 Kyle Langenderfer of Illinois. Cimato is now a team-best 16-2 on the season, and is currently ranked 10th in the country via the latest InterMat rankings.
- Sophomore Stephen Loiseau is also off to a solid start in 2015, holding a 11-6 record with three major decisions and a technical fall on the season. 2014-15 NCAA qualifier Kevin Devoy Jr. (141) has notched a 2-2 record through the first month of the season, with one major decision under his belt.

- The last time the two schools met in a head-to-head match was back on November 7, 2009 when the Terps secured a 35-6 decision. The day proved to be a memorable one Kerry McCoy, as the then first-year head coach notched his first two dual meet wins at the helm for Maryland. The Terps hold a 6-2 advantage in the all-time series.
honoring the past
- The Maryland Wrestling program will honor former Terp great Jimmy Sheptock ('14) Saturday in pre-match ceremony. Sheptock was a two-time All-American and three-time ACC Champion at 184 pounds, finishing with 129 career wins and an undefeated 51-0 career dual meet record. The Northampton, Pennsylvania native became the first Terp to finish as a National finalist since 1969 during his senior season, where he compiled a 32-match win streak. Sheptock is currently an assistant coach with Drexel.
