
Top Teams Battle as #1 Maryland Hosts #2 UNC

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The top two teams in the country battle when the No. 1 Maryland women's lacrosse team (1-0) hosts No. 2 North Carolina (3-0) Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex.
• The Terrapins-Tar Heels game will be streamed on BTN Plus on BTN2Go.

• North Carolina comes to College Park on a three-game win streak. The Tar Heels defeated High Point, 19-5, last Friday.
• UNC is currently averaging 16.33 goals per game on 36.7 shots per game.
• Alex Moore leads the Tar Heels with nine goals and 10 points. Brittney Coppa is close behind with eight goals and nine points. Aly Messinger, Marie McCool and Sydney Holman each have seven ground balls on the season and Sarah Schott leads the Tar Heels with 11 draw controls.
• North Carolina has a tandem of talented goalkeepers in sophomore Caylee Waters (2-0) and junior Megan Ward (1-0). The pair has limited opponents to 8.33 goals per game.

• As former conference opponents, Maryland and North Carolina have a storied history. The Terrapins are 21-12 all-time against the Tar Heels.
• Maryland is 10-0 all-time at home against North Carolina.
• In the last two seasons, the Tar Heels are the only team to defeat the Terps. In 2013, Maryland fell in triple overtime of the national championship game to North Carolina.

• Sophomore midfielder Zoe Stukenberg recorded six points on a hat trick and three assists while junior midfielder Taylor Cummings scored four goals and added nine draw controls, four caused turnovers and two ground balls.
• Megan Whittle and Kristen Lamon each scored twice, and Kelly McPartland, Brooke Griffin, Casey Pepperman and Shanna Brady also added goals.
STUKENBERG, WHITTLE EARN BIG TEN WEEKLY HONORS
• After helping the Terps to a 15-5 season-opening win, sophomore Zoe Stukenberg and freshman Megan Whittle received conference weekly honors.
• Stukenberg was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week after posting three goals and three assists.
• Whittle was tabbed as the conference's Freshman of the Week after scoring a pair of goals.
