View From The Box
- After an even battle in the first 45 minutes, Georgetown took control of proceedings in the second half and were rewarded with Dodson's 65th minute tally. Paul Rothrock sent the ball across before it was touched into the path of Dodson by Achara. Dodson finished past Niklas Neumann to give the Hoyas the lead.
- The first half saw the Terps start brightly. Senior Eli Crognale had the best chance of the opening moments, forcing a save on a shot from the top of the box after being slipped through by Eric Matzelevich.
- Freshman David Kovacic at the best look at goal in the final minutes of the first half, flying a close range effort over the crossbar.
- As Georgetown took control in the second half, the Terps' defense did have its heroic moments. Junior Matt Di Rosa cleared a goal bound shot off the line just before Georgetown's opener in a display of sensational emergency defending. The attempt went to video review, where it was shown that the Maryland junior flicked the ball off the line while running at a dead sprint backwards.
- Freshman Justin Harris had Maryland's best chance of the second half. In the 52nd minute, Matzelevich slipped the ball to Harris in the corner of the box, but the freshman sent his effort off wide to the right.
- Neumann had one of his better matches of the season even in defeat. The German had no chance to stop the Hoyas' tally, and made a number of good stops that prevented more goals for the road side.
- Following the goal, the Terps pushed for an equalizer, but did not conjur up a good enough chance to really test Tomas Romero in the Hoya net. Senior Luke Brown had a half chance on the half volley from 30 yards out in the 72nd minute, but he fired right into the waiting arms of Romero.
From the Boss
"I thought we played a really good first half, but as the game progressed, Georgetown's depth and quality started to take over the game. We started to get more spread and our inability to hold the ball in attacking positions started to wear us down. I love my guys, and I thought today fatigue played a pivotal role. Georgetown is a heck of a team, but we aren't done. This game will be a good game for us to look at." –
