View From The Box
  • The Terrapins (11-8-2) put in a valiant effort, but were ultimately second best on the night to a quality Demon Deacons side. The teams played a fairly even first 25 minutes before Bruno Lapa put the home side up 1-0. The chance fell to the Wake midfielder after a long shot attempt had deflected off a Maryland defender in the box and right into the path of Lapa.
  • The Terps best chance of the opening half came from Luke Brown in the 31st minute. A ball was flicked on to Brown at the top of the box and the senior unleashed a half volley that banged off the crossbar.
  • The Demon Deacons doubled their advantage on a tally from Machop Chol in the 50th minute. A Maryland giveaway in the back led to a quick counter attack from Wake Forest with Chol delivering the goal that Niklas Neumann had no chance to stop.
  • Maryland almost cut the lead in half mere seconds after the goal. Eric Matzelevich set up Malcolm Johnston in the box, but the freshman's shot was straight at the keeper.
  • The Demon Deacons controlled the first half of the second stanza and almost put the game out of reach on a couple of occasions. Neumann was up to the task on a few occasions and the Terps continued to defend hard and stay in the match.
  • The Terps had a couple of decent chances in the final 10 minutes, the best an Eli Crognale cross that barely missed Johannes Bergmann's head and Matzelevich's left boot at the back post. The Terps battled, but could not find the tally that would've solidified some momentum in the match.
  • As Maryland pressed numbers forward, Wake added a third in the final minute off the foot of Kyle Holcomb.
  • The Terps season at 11-8-2. Maryland has now won double-digit matches in 26 of the last 27 seasons under Sasho Cirovski.
From The Boss
"I'm very proud of my team tonight. We've been undermanned for a while and we fought until the last whistle. We were right in it. We continued to fight and scrap and compete. As a coach you can't ask for anything more. I love these kids." – Sasho Cirovski

Up Next
The 2020 season, which will see the projected return of nine starters and the addition of a talented incoming class. The Terps will see senior captains Crognale and Bergmann depart, along with Luke Brown.
