Logan Anderson: Leading With Passion

Logan Anderson, a third-year Field Hockey defender and Kinesiology major from Medford Lakes, New Jersey, always found herself surrounded by dedicated leaders.

Growing up, Anderson was raised in a particularly sports-oriented family. As a result, she always looked for opportunities to lead, to get involved and to simply help out whenever and wherever she could.

Anderson’s father Brian, one of her biggest mentors in her life, serves as a shining example of not only what it takes to succeed, but also what it means to lead with purpose.

“My dad is a coach so I look up to him because he has always been such an influential and positive role model in my life,” Anderson said.

During Anderson’s freshman year at Maryland, she was a member of the Maryland Made Leadership Academy. Her experience participating in the program later inspired her to take on a leadership role within the Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC).

“I really enjoy everything that SAAC represents,” Anderson said. “I love how the board advocates for student-athletes. Not only are you able to voice yourself, but also be more connected.”

Anderson described her point of view as “Terps supporting Terps.”

This summer, Anderson earned the title of Share the Shell Liaison within SAAC.

Her main duty as the Share the Shell Liaison is to search for opportunities for student-athletes to become more involved in the school community beyond the playing fields.

This new leadership role means a lot to Anderson. She is excited to see what’s in store for the Maryland student-athletes and is looking forward to fostering a sense of impactful community among the student athletes.

“It’s a huge honor to be able to be put in this role and be trusted in this leadership position,” Anderson said. “It has given me a better understanding of how important it is to be involved in the community outside of being a player on the field hockey team.”

Currently, Anderson is organizing TerpsGiving which is an annual holiday event hosted by SAAC. She is extremely excited about the event as she and other student-athletes will be hosting a canned food drive and volunteering at a local homeless shelter to serve food.

“There are so many different events within SAAC and it is an awesome way to represent Maryland.”

Within Anderson’s role as Share the Shell Liaison, she put emphasis on how she plans to “support each other, amplify the student-athlete voice, communicate with athletic directors, and sustain a close-knit family within Maryland Made.”

Anderson is grateful for the doors this role has already opened for her.

“Being on the executive board and being involved with Maryland Made has already given me so many opportunities to expand my networking skills and grow throughout my career.”

Overall, Anderson is eager to collaborate, turn her ideas for SAAC into reality, and hopes to initiate positive changes within the student-athlete community.
