Maryland's SAAC President shares her vision for 2023-24

By Logan Anderson, Field Hockey Student-Athlete & SAAC President

Leading The Way: A series where the leaders of Maryland’s four student-led groups (SAAC, Pre-Health Terps, Worldwide Terps and the Team IMPACT Fellows) share their goals for the upcoming year ahead, beginning with SAAC President Logan Anderson (Field Hockey).

Dear Maryland family,

I’m so excited to be your SAAC president this year. I’ve been involved with SAAC since I came to the University of Maryland and I have loved being a part of it ever since. SAAC has given me countless opportunities to form new friendships, network myself, and advocate for student athletes about the improvements we can make here. Last year, the SAAC executive board worked hard to create goals and take strides toward them under the leadership of our former president Catherine DeRosa. I am happy to take over this role from her this year to continue working towards these goals and to also create new ones.

This year we have an amazing executive board filled with athletes from different teams. I cannot wait to start working with them as we have already started to plan fun events for the athletes this year and share common goals on how we can better the experience for student athletes at Maryland. I look forward to working with my team on making the environment for student athletes here something they can enjoy and thrive in.  The Student Athlete Advisory Committee made huge progress last year in working with our athletic director and leadership team to enhance our communication and to come together to make decisions that are best for our athletes.

I believe SAAC is something everybody should try to be involved in as much as possible. There are plenty of different avenues we offer within SAAC. On our executive board, we have two student-athlete engagement liaisons that assist in coming up with events and different ways to keep our athletes connected with one another. We also have two Share the Shell liaisons that work to have us more connected with the outside community. We have a Director of Wellness that focuses on bringing more attention to mental health and how we can provide better services to our athletes. Finally, we have a Diversity and Inclusion liaison that focuses on bringing everyone together and making sure we hear from all perspectives.  SAAC is a great way to become involved and meet people in the student athlete community here.
