2024 Maryland Made Leadership Academy Cohort

The Maryland Made Team announced the 2024 cohort for the Maryland Made Leadership Academy. The program includes 14 student-athletes from seven different sports and will focus on developing their leadership skills.

The Maryland Made Leadership Academy was created to strengthen the foundation of future leaders and commit to developing student-athletes at all levels. This program empowers student-athletes to overcome the increasingly complex challenges that emerge as they take on leadership roles. By exploring the pros and cons of diverse leadership styles and strategies, you will expand your ability to build productive teams, champion change, lead in a crisis, and create a culture of high performance.

During the five-week program, student-athletes will participate in the following curriculum topics: The Real Colors personality assessment, Creating a Leadership Philosophy, Emotional Intelligence, Crucial Conversations, and Inclusive Leadership. With these tools, the 2024 Cohort will be better prepared to take on leadership positions in student groups, within their teams, and in their future careers.

Hear from a few of the student-athletes who have applied to be a member of this cohort:

Katie Altieri
I want to be a part of the Maryland Made Leadership Academy to grow more as a person and develop skills I can take with me for my team and the workforce. Over the years I have grown as a person and have come out of my shell but I would also like to challenge myself and take on a leadership role within my team. As an upperclassman, I have a responsibility to be a leader on my team and lead by example so I am hoping to develop the qualities needed to be a good leader."
Katie Alteri, Women's Track and Field
Darius Grimes
I want to be a part of the leadership academy because I want to acquire new skills to better interact and communicate with various types of people with different backgrounds and experiences. As an underclassman on the team, I want to build my leadership skills and qualities now, so I can be the best teammate and leader as I continue my journey through college. I believe that the things I learn now will direct me to continuing to grow in the areas inside and outside of my sport.
Darius Grimes, Football
Ava Trexler
I want to be a part of the Maryland Made Leadership Academy to enhance my leadership abilities in my sport, as well as in the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and my future career. I am currently a Sophomore, and being an upperclassman next year means that I am going to be able to adapt as a role model for several of my younger teammates. I feel that this academy will thoroughly prepare me to be able to support and guide my teammates in an impactful way.
Ava Trexler, Field Hockey
