What It Means to be a Terp: AJ Larkin

Hey Terp Family,

As we kick off the 2025–2026 academic year, I can’t tell you how excited I am to step into the role of SAAC President. This isn’t just about a title. For me, it’s about representing all of you, the incredible student-athletes who pour your hearts into your sports, your academics, and your communities every single day.

When I decided to run for SAAC President, my “why” was clear: I believe we are stronger together. We all come from different sports, backgrounds, and experiences, but when we unite, we have the power to create change, lift each other up, and leave a lasting mark on Maryland and its surrounding communities. I wanted to be in a position where I could help make that happen — to connect our voices, bring our ideas to life, and make sure every athlete feels seen and heard.

I first got involved with SAAC after talking with one of my great friends, Ajax Zappatello, and getting his opinion on what they represent, talking to him and last year's President, Zoe Huang, I knew I wanted to be involved. A combination of listening to the student-athletes' opinions and the community for the better, while also helping the Terps get better every day.

This year, I want SAAC to be more than just meetings and agendas. I want us to do things that matter. That means more community-based projects, more volunteer opportunities, and more chances for us to step off the field, court, or track and come closer as a community of Student Athletes. Imagine Terps from every team coming together to host events for local kids, run charity drives, build partnerships with the people and organizations that call College Park home, and enhance the student athlete experience. That’s the kind of energy I’m ready to bring to the table!

I’m also looking forward to growing — both as a leader and as part of a team of leaders. With a board consisting of such great people as Anna Marie Tretola, DJ Tarver, Ava Trexler, Andrew Harmon, and Julia Garcia, we are all dedicated to working for you all and making the experience of being a student athlete that much better!

At the end of the day, our records, stats, and titles will be part of our story — but the way we show up for each other and for our community will define our legacy. So let’s make this year one where we connect across teams, support one another, and remind everyone what it means to be a Terp - competitive, compassionate, and committed.

Being SAAC President doesn’t mean I have all the answers. It means I’m ready to listen, collaborate, and help create space for every voice. Whether you have an idea, a concern, or a vision for something bigger, I want SAAC to be the place where we make it happen together.

At the end of the day, our records, stats, and titles will be part of our story — but the way we show up for each other and for our community will define our legacy. So let’s make this year one where we connect across teams, support one another, and remind everyone what it means to be a Terp - competitive, compassionate, and committed.

I’m honored to serve you this year, and I’m ready to get to work. Let’s make 2025–2026 unforgettable.

Go Terps!
Be the Best.
