2023 Football Seniors: Looking Back

As the Maryland football team takes the field for its final regular season game of the 2023 season, it will also mark the end of the road for the 2023 senior class—a class that will be remembered fondly for leaving the program in a much better place than they found it.

During the class’ four years in College Park, they accomplished a large amount, highlighted by leading the program to three consecutive bowl games for the first time since 2006-08. The class is also 2-0 in bowl games so far, with the hopes of moving to 3-0 in December. The seniors have racked up 23 wins, including the shortened 2020 seasons, with highlight wins over teams including: Penn State, West Virginia, Virginia Tech, Michigan State (twice), NC State & Virginia & Nebraska.

Perhaps most significantly, however, is the mark that this year’s senior class made on the program’s culture. Under this class’ leadership, the program has transitioned into a player-driven culture where they hold each other accountable and take ownership themselves.

That improved culture will be this program’s lasting legacy and it will extend for many years to come under head coach Michael Locksley.

And as the group heads into the final regular season game, a few student-athletes have taken the time to look back at their Maryland careers and to share their favorite memories as Terps.

I have so many great moments that I look back on at Maryland but three of my favorites are beating Minnesota at home during the COVID year, winning the Pinstripe bowl the next year and the Northwestern game in 2022 to give us our sixth win.

Wearing the Maryland jersey day in and day out and contributing to back-to-back bowl games stands out as a cherished memory for me, symbolizing the foundation laid for a promising future.

I am incredible appreciative of my career at Maryland and everyone that supported me. Two moments that I'll always remember are being put on scholarship and my first career touchdown this season at Michigan State.

My favorite part about my career at Maryland was the relationships that I’ve built, not only with my teammates, but with my mentors and other valuable people in the DMV area.

Personally, my favorite memory was the Texas game in 2018. With not knowing if I’d really play going into the game and then coming out of the game with three touchdowns was super unexpected. But it was a huge blessing and I enjoyed every minute of it. And the fact that my family was there to see it made the moment that much better.

Overall I’d say what I've loved most is just seeing how far this team & program has come. Also, being able to be a part of and watch this team become a family and the brotherhood that Coach Locks and the team created has been amazing to be apart of.

Looking back on my career at Maryland, it’s hard to pinpoint a certain time that was the highlight of my time here. Being here for five years, I watched a group of guys turn into brothers and completely turn this program around. The entire culture shifted because of the guys I was surrounded with on this team and they were the ones that made my career here special.

It's been an awesome journey. From beating Minnesota and Penn State in the COVID year to making history with three straight bowl games, we've all been through a lot. I appreciate everyone's hard work and love for the grind so much. I love all my boys. I love playing in The Shell. I love this community and I love playing at Maryland.
