BLOG: Terps in Croatia

The Maryland women's basketball team went on a 10-day tour of Croatia from June 24-July 4. The Terrapins visited Zagreb, Split, Montenegro and Dubrovnik.

The Terps went 2-0 in their two games in Croatia. Click HERE for the game 1 recap and HERE for the game 2 recap.

Day 9

On their last full day on the trip, the Terrapins visited the country of Montenegro and toured the Bay of Kotor. They visited the blue caves, the town of Perast, hidden submarine tunnels and the town of Kotor. The views were amazing and it was a great day to end the trip.

Day 8

Due to some inclement weather early in the day, the Terrapins' travel party had to shift plans on Tuesday. The team was scheduled to enjoy speedboat rides to Montenegro. The team at Anthony Travel shifted the plans and instead, the Terps had the chance to explore Old Town Dubrovnik or relax at the hotel.

For dinner, the team had a planned White Party and dinner in the town of Cavtat, just down the coast from Dubrovnik.

Day 7

The Terrapins left Split Monday morning to head to Dubrovnik, about three hours down the Croatian coast. They made a stop for lunch in Ston, a coastal town known for producing salt.

They checked into their hotel in Dubrovnik, then took an bus tour of many of the sites and views of the city. The Terps and their travel party enjoyed a short walking tour through Old Town Dubrovnik, which ended at the Old Town Basketball Court, one of the most unique and well-known basketball courts in the world.

Day 6

Day 6 was a rest day for most of the team and staff after a long day on the catamaran the day before. All wanted to prepare for Game 2 Sunday night. Most of the travel party hung at the hotel, Le Meridien Lav Split, and relaxed in the morning. Some staff explored the town of Trogir.

The Terrapins played Game 2 at Mala Dvorana S.C. Gripe, the home of Split's basketball team. The gym was hot but the Terrapins were victorious, 92-53.

Day 5

The Terps enjoyed an all day catamaran cruise through the Pakleni Islands Saturday. The cruise included two swim stops and a stop in the beautiful island of Hvar.

Day 4

The Terps spent Friday morning touring the old town of Split and Diocletian's Palace. This is where many episodes of Game of Thrones were filmed.

In the afternoon, many members of the team and staff went ziplining in the mountains just off the coast. Although some were nervous, everyone overcame the nerves for an amazing experience!

Day 3

On Day 3 of their Croatian tour, the Terrapins toured the Plitvice Lakes to start the day. After a bus ride from Zagreb, the Terrapins got to the National Park and it started to downpour. Thankfully, the rain stopped and the sun came out. The lakes and waterfalls were absolutely amazing as they hiked three miles through the park, then took a boat ride across one of the lakes.

After hiking in Plitvice, the Maryland team bussed 3 hours south to the coastal town of Split. Stay tuned for their next adventures!

Day 2

The Terrapins beat the Zagreb All Stars, 82-34, Tuesday night in Zagreb. Click here for the full recap.

The Terrapins also got a visit from former Terp Sara Vujacic, who played at Maryland from 2018-2020. She is from Maribor, Slovenia and drove 90 minutes to come to the game. Sara is currently playing professionally in Spain.

On Day 2, the Terrapins visited a small Croatian town called Samobor in the morning. They visited a family-owned bakery known for making licitars, which heart-shaped cookies given as gifts of love.

Day 1

After traveling overnight, the Terrapins took a tour of the city of Zagreb. They saw the Cathedral, St. Mark's Church and the old town.
