25 for 25: Top Student-Athletes of the Last 25 Years

Maryland Athletics is celebrating the first 25 years of the 21st century by looking back at some of the greatest Terps from all of our sports. Listed in alphabetical order, these Terps represented the best of the University of Maryland from 2001-25. Join us each week in the month of December as we look back at some of the greatest to ever don the red, white, black and gold.

Note: Student-athletes were selected based upon their performance from Jan. 2001 to Dec. 2025. Student-athletes needed to compete in at least two seasons during this 25-year period.

Paula Infante

Field Hockey • 2002-05

  • Inducted into the Maryland Athletics Hall of Fame in 2021
  • Four-time First Team All-American
  • Two-time Honda Sports Award winner as the nation's top player in 2005 and 2006
  • Led the Terrapins to back-to-back NCAA titles in her junior and senior seasons
  • 58 career goals are No. 9 on the Terps' all-time list.
Paula Infante

Thea LaFond

Track & Field • 2012-15

  • 2024 Olympic Gold Medalist in the Triple Jump - the FIRST EVER Maryland track & field alum to medal in the Olympics
  • Set a Domenica national record of 15.02m at the Paris Olympic Games and earned her country’s first-ever Olympic medal
  • Two-time Outdoor All-American in 2014 (2nd - High Jump, HM - Triple Jump)
  • 2nd Team Indoor All-American in 2014 in the pentathlon
  • Still holds the outdoor school record in the triple jump (13.48m)
  • Current Outdoor Ranks: 1st, 3rd & 4th - Shuttle Hurdle Relay (anchor leg); 4th - High Jump; 7th - 100m Hurdles; T10th - Long Jump
  • Finished her career as the school’s indoor record holder in the 60m High Hurdles, and is still 2nd on that list
  • Current Indoor Ranks: 2nd - Triple Jump; 2nd - Pentathlon; 4th - High Jump; 4th - Long Jump
  • 2015 Big Ten Women’s Field Athlete of the Year and Big Ten Championships Women’s Field Athlete of the Championships

Crystal Langhorne

Women's Basketball • 2005-08

  • Inducted into the Maryland Athletics Hall of Fame in 2021
  • Helped lead the team to its only NCAA Championship in 2006
  • Three-time All-American and two-time Academic All-American
  • 2008 ACC Player of the Year and four-time All-ACC selection
  • 2007 ACC Scholar Athlete of the Year
  • Was the school’s all-time leading scorer and rebounder when she graduated and still ranks second with in each category with 2,247 points and 1,229 rebounds
  • Led the Terps in scoring, rebounding and FG percentage for three consecutive seasons (2006-08)
  • Holds the school record for points scored in NCAA tournament games with 280
Crystal Langhorne

Patrick Mullins

Men's Soccer • 2010-13

  • Inducted into the Maryland Athletics Hall of Fame in 2022
  • Maryland's only two-time MAC Hermann Trophy winner (2012 and 2013) as National Player of the Year
  • Two-time Soccer America Men's Player of the Year (2012 and 2013)
  • Two-time first-team All-American by NSCAA, Soccer America and College Soccer News
  • Four NCAA Tournament appearances, Two College Cup appearances with a finals appearance in 2013
  • Two-time NCAA All-Tournament team
  • 2012 ACC Offensive Player of the Year, 2010 ACC Freshman of the Year
  • Three-time All-ACC (first-team in 2012 and 2013, second-team in 2011), Four-time ACC All-Academic team
  • Two-time ACC Champion and two-time ACC Championship MVP
  • Finished career second in points (119) and goals (47), Finished career sixth in assists (25)

Katie O'Donnell

Field Hockey • 2007-10

  • Inducted into the Maryland Athletics Hall of Fame in 2021
  • Considered to be one of the best American field hockey players in the history of the sport
  • Two-time winner of the Honda Award
  • Just the third (and one of only three) Maryland student-athletes to be a four-time First-Team All-American.
  • Two-time NFHCA Regional Player of the Year (2009 and 2010)
  • Led Maryland to the 2008 and 2010 NCAA Championships
  • The top scorer of the 2009 and 2010 NCAA Tournaments and a three-time NCAA All-Tournament team selection
  • Ranks first all-time at Maryland in points (306), goals (99) and assists (108, which is an NCAA record)
  • Four-time ACC Offensive Player of the Year (only the third student-athlete to win all four years in any sport)
