Maryland leads wire-to-wire to win its first NCAA Championship in four seasons.

Top-seeded Maryland captured its 12th national title Sunday with a 15-12 victory against No. 2 seed Syracuse in front of a record crowd of 10,311 at the 2014 NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship at Johnny Unitas Stadium.

Maryland (23-1) was led in scoring by lone senior starter Beth Glaros, who notched five goals. Taylor Cummings, Brooke Griffin and Kristen Lamon added hat tricks. The Terrapins boasted a 16-13 advantage in the draw circle, including eight from Cummings, en route to their first national championship since 2010.

Maryland's offense erupted from the onset, posting a commanding 5-0 run in the first 4:20 of the game. After Lamon began the drive with a score 43 seconds in the contest, Glaros and Cummings each found the back of the net for a 3-0 Terrapin lead. Lamon extended the cushion to four after an incredible feed from Kelly McPartland before the All-American midfielder gave Maryland its fifth consecutive goal at 25:40.

“What an amazing night this is for our Maryland lacrosse program," head coach Cathy Reese said. "Our girls came out and fought hard from the opening whistle until the end. Lacrosse is a game of runs and there were a lot of them tonight. We really stuck together and played the full 60 minutes and we are really excited to come away with the national championship.”

The Maryland women's lacrosse team overcame the biggest halftime upset in championship history to capture the Terrapins' 13th national championship and second consecutive title Sunday night.

The top-seeded Terps defeated No. 2-seed North Carolina, 9-8, after being down 6-3 at halftime. Maryland was led offensively by Taylor Cummings (3G, 2A) and Megan Whittle (3G, 1A).

“What a great night for the Terps,” head coach Cathy Reese said. “I'm really proud of my team's effort tonight, especially in the second half. These guys came out and fought hard every possession against a really good Carolina team.”

Cummings, Megan Douty, Kelly McPartland, and Whittle were named to the all-tournament team. Cummings, a 2015 Tewaaraton finalist, was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player for the second straight season after posting five goals, six assists, 12 draw controls, and two caused turnovers in the Final Four.

Maryland won the 2017 NCAA Championship with an undefeated 23-0 record; it’s first undefeated season since 2001

Sophomore attacker Caroline Steele scored six goals as the top-seeded Maryland lacrosse beat Boston College, 16-13, Sunday to win the program's 14th national championship and finish the season undefeated.

"I'd like to start off and say congratulations to Boston College. They were a tough team today, and a tough opponent," head coach Cathy Reese said. "To kind of cap it off, I was really proud of our team. Proud of our girls' effort. We struggled shooting in the first half, but we came out in the second half on fire. Give these guys all the credit. They played hard. They played their hearts out. To have the season that they had this year going undefeated was something that's really special. So huge congratulations to all of my players."

In front of an NCAA record 11,668 fans, Steele tied the NCAA Championship game record for goals.

Junior attacker Taylor Hensh finished with a hat trick while sophomore midfielder Jen Giles, junior attacker Megan Whittle and freshman attacker Kali Hartshorn each scored twice.

Maryland wins its first NCAA Championship since 1975, putting an end to a 42-year title drought.

After back-to-back heartbreaks in the last two title games extended decades of frustration, Maryland was finally able to celebrate.

Dylan Maltz had two goals and an assist and Tim Rotanz scored three times as the top-seeded Terrapins defeated Ohio State 9-6 on Monday in the NCAA lacrosse championship game, putting an end to a 42-year title drought.

"It's an unbelievable experience. You look at everyone who played so hard for this program and set such a platform for us to succeed, it's awesome to see them in the crowd," Rotanz said. "I have no feeling right now. I'm numb."

Rotanz scored the final goal with 59 seconds left, allowing the Terps (16-3) a little comfort to count down the final minute after three goals by Ohio State in the fourth quarter pulled the Buckeyes within two.

The Terps held on, then rushed the field beneath a cloud of gloves and sticks they tossed in the air to celebrate putting an end to their own frustration.
