Maryland won its first-ever Big Ten Championship in 2022 and first conference title in more than a half-century since the Terps won the ACC in 1971. Overall, it was Maryland’s fifth conference crown.

The Terps had a season full of late-inning drama that included five walk-off winners. Nick Lorusso walked off UMBC with an RBI single in the home opener on Feb. 23, Matt Shaw walked off Georgetown with an opposite-field home run on Mar. 11, Bobby Zmarzlak hit a walk-off homer against Ohio State on April 15, Ian Petrutz was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded against Indiana in the Big Ten Tournament on May 26, and Nick Lorusso walked off UConn with a bases-loaded single to deep right field on June 5 in the College Park Regional.

Maryland had 10 players earn All-Big Ten honors, highlighted by Chris Alleyne, Ryan Ramsey, Jason Savacool, Nick Lorusso, Matt Shaw, and Kevin Keister earning First Team honors, Luke Shliger earning Second Team, and Troy Schreffler Jr., Nick Dean, and Maxwell Costes earning Third Team honors.

One of the best power hitting lineups in the country saw Maryland boast eight different players with at least 10 home runs, all of them being position players.

Ryan Ramsey earned 11 wins on the season, most on the team, and second-most in a single season in program history.

Chris Alleyne enjoyed a magical season that saw him break the program record for home runs with 24 in a season, passing Derek Hacopian’s mark of 23 set in 1992.

Ryan Ramsey pitched the 20th perfect game in college baseball history and became just the second left-handed pitcher to ever throw one on the college level. His 27 outs came against the Northwestern Wildcats on 4/29.

Senior captain Sean Heine was one of the most relied on relievers in the Terps bullpen, appearing 30 times which is good for second all-time in a single season.

In his first season at Maryland, Lorusso started off the season hot, getting on-base at least once in 32 consecutive games, surpassing Brandon Lowe’s mark of 29 games to begin a season.

The Terps won 48 games this season, the most in program history. 27 of them came at home while 19 of them came on the road. Two came at neutral sites.

Maryland did not lose a single Big Ten series this season, winning at least two of three games against each conference foe that they faced. This lifted the team to its first Big Ten title and its conference title in 51 years.

Maryland collected a total of 683 hits this season, another program record. Four different players on the Terps had at least 80 hits with Luke Shliger having 88, Chris Alleyne having 87, and Troy Schreffler Jr. have 86.

The Terps earned the right to host the first College Park Regional, and 3,000 fans packed Bob ‘Turtle’ Smith Stadium to watch Maryland in its first-ever home postseason action.

A total of 41,315 fans came out to watch the Terps at The Bob this season, setting a new school record for total attendance and a season average record of 1,377 fans per game. That included 20 crowds of more than 1,000.
