With the 2022-23 wrestling season underway, we sat down with brothers Ethen (left below) and Kal (right below) Miller, to learn more about what it’s like to be wrestling in College Park together and how they feel about their joint nickname “Miller Time”. The two came from Kansas City and have become staples in coach Alex Clemsen’s lineup, despite being just a redshirt freshman and a true freshman.

When did you guys first start wrestling together and what was that like?

Ethen: I started a year before Kal and then he started right after me. By the time I was six years old, I was winning national tournaments. For me and Kal, it’s always been our own gig that we shared together and we just loved it.

Kal: We’ve grown up wrestling together since I was four and Ethen was five. We were always competitive with each other, but it was all to make each other better and we always had fun with it.

What’s it like competing on the same team collegiately?

Ethen: It’s been a lot of fun. We do everything together. Whether that be playing Xbox or working out, or anything, we’re always together. It feels a lot more like home this year, having him here.

Kal: It’s an awesome feeling. It’s the same thing as always, but doing it in college is the peak. It’s awesome to have my brother in my corner here.

Was it always the plan to wrestle together in college?

Ethen: For the most part. We played three sports growing up, but once we chose wrestling we wanted to go to the same school because we’ve always had a good relationship. We’re pretty dang close.

Kal: For sure. It was probably eighth grade when it clicked that we wanted to go far in wrestling and we wanted to do it together.

How much do you guys get a kick out of the Miller Time nickname?

Ethen: I enjoy it a lot. It’s funny. Maybe we’ll get an NIL deal there eventually. It’s a cool thing and it gets everyone fired up on the team and in the crowd, not just us.

Kal: It’s pretty funny. I see it all over social media. Coach Clemsen started that and knowing him he’s going to keep going with it. I think it’s fun; it gets everyone going.
