Planned gifts can unlock immediate matching funds to support Terrapin student-athletes
COLLEGE PARK, MD – Maryland Athletics is participating in the Maryland Legacy Challenge, a new campus-wide initiative that allows supporters to make an immediate impact by documenting a new or increased planned gift to the University of Maryland.
"The Maryland Legacy Challenge is a great opportunity to bring additional support to Maryland Athletics as we educate more people about the benefits of planned giving," said Kirby Mills, Deputy Athletic Director and Chief Development Officer. "Wills, estates, and other planned gifts set us up for sustainable success, and others, like charitable gift annuities, can even provide income back to the donor while benefiting the institution. We look forward to talking with Terps everywhere about the Maryland Legacy Challenge."
Through the program, donors who include Maryland Athletics in their estate plans can unlock a current-use matching gift equal to 10% of the estimated value of their planned gift, up to $10,000. The matching funds will be directed to a current-use athletics fund that closely aligns with the legacy gift, creating an impact for Maryland student-athletes today while establishing support for the future.
For example, a Terps supporter who documents a $100,000 planned gift to establish a new fund or support an existing Maryland Athletics fund would generate an additional $10,000 in current-use funding through the Legacy Challenge.
The Maryland Legacy Challenge will continue while matching funds remain available. Matching funds are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Program restrictions apply.
