- A finalist for the Hermann Trophy and MAC Player of the Year Award as a sophomore in 1999
- Finished his career 10th in career goals (28), tied for sixth in career assists (17), and tied for seventh in career points (73)
- Helped lead Maryland to two NCAA tournament appearances and a berth in the 1998 College Cup (the first appearance under head coach Sasho Cirovski); scored the game-winning goals in the first and second-round NCAA tournament games in 1998.
- 1998 Freshman of the Year by Soccer America and College Soccer Weekly
- Left Maryland after the 1999 season to sign with 1860 Munich of Germany's Bundesliga
- Returned to the States in 2002 and was selected second overall by the New England Revolution in the MLS SuperDraft.
- Played in 174 games for the Revolution and totaled 101 goals from 2002-10 as a five-time MLS all-star and earning MLS MVP in 2005
- Member of the US Senior National team from 2002-08 and scored six international goals in 30 career caps
- Currently serves as lead analyst for ESPN's MLS coverage and has been the lead analyst for the World Cup
