Terp of the Month
Each month, Maryland Athletics selects a "Terp of the Month," awarded to an employee who has been nominated by his/her colleagues. Terp of the Month winners demonstrate their commitment to ONE MARYLAND by leading boldly, enhancing student-centered environment and inspiring pride. These Terps have a positive attitude toward work responsibilities and co-workers, serve as role models to others, and have gone above and beyond the call of duty.
While all employees who are nominated are recognized, the selected winner also receives a Maryland championship belt to display in their office for that month. At the end of the year, employees vote for a Terp of the Year, with over 150 votes placed last year!

Katy is being recognized for her exceptional leadership and impact on this year’s Giving Day. Leading one of the most complex initiatives of the year, she executed every detail with precision, organization, and grace—from overseeing digital assets to coordinating a seamless, department-wide effort. Her work helped drive a record-breaking campaign that surpassed 1,000 donors, finishing with 1,109, and achieved the highest fundraising total in Giving Day history. Katy’s ability to manage such a large-scale project while maintaining a clear vision and high standard of excellence was instrumental to its success.
Just as impressive was how Katy approached the work. She brought together multiple units across Maryland Athletics, fostering collaboration and ensuring every contributor felt valued and appreciated. At the same time, she supported and onboarded a new staff member, provided leadership to coaches and student-athletes, and continued investing in her own professional growth. Katy consistently goes above and beyond, and her dedication, teamwork, and leadership make her truly deserving of Terp of the Month honors.

When COVID-19 hit in Spring 2020, we moved our academic services online. Unfortunately, there were student-athletes who did not have access to a laptop or WiFi after moving home. The IT staff worked diligently, in collaboration with academics, to provide laptops to those student-athletes. Despite many stores being sold out of laptops during this time, the IT team personally contacted stores to find a solution to getting laptops ordered and delivered to the student-athletes.
The IT team used collaboration, innovation, and communication to ensure our student-athletes were able to succeed academically. They did not stop searching for the best solution until the goal was accomplished.

Matt has served in multiple roles in our athletics department since joining Maryland in 2008. At the time he received this award, he served as our Associate Athletic DirectorHe is a graduate of Robert Morris University and spent time at Marshall University and the University of Pittsburgh before becoming a Terp. Matt's favorite thing about Maryland is watching our student-athletes compete!
