
Terps Host Princeton and Old Dominion in Crucial Field Hockey Games.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland field hockey team (14-1, 3-0 ACC), which is ranked No. 2 in the nation and has won 12 consecutive games, plays host to Princeton (Oct. 15, 7 p.m.) and Old Dominion (Oct. 17, 1 p.m.) in a pair of crucial games this week. The Terps are currently riding the nation's second-longest winning-streak behind only Connecticut's 13 game streak. Maryland's games against Princeton and Old Dominion are the final two regular season home games of the season. The Terps are 10-0 at home this season. Terps' Winning Streak At 12 Games Maryland has won a near school-record 12 consecutive games. The Terps defeated James Madison (3-2), Rutgers (4-1) and Radford (7-0) last week to extend their streak. The Terps' 12-game winning-streak is the second-longest in school history. Maryland's longest winning-streak came during the 1993 season when Missy Meharg led the Terps to 15 consecutive victories on its way to the national championship. The Terps were undefeated from Sept. 24 through Nov. 21. Meharg led the Terps to three victories in the NCAA Tournament and to Maryland's second national championship in school history.

Tagliente Has A Week To Remember Junior Carla Tagliente (Cortland, N.Y.) scored eight goals and recorded two assists for a total of 18 points in Maryland's three victories last week. She scored hat tricks against both No. 10 James Madison and Rutgers and scored two goals and added two assists against Radford. Tagliente entered the week with 10 goals and 23 total points.

Tagliente Now Ranked Fifth All-Time Junior Carla Tagliente has now scored 49 career goals to rank tied for fifth in school history. She is now tied with former All-America selection Nadine Bennett (1994-97) who also scored 49 goals during her four-year varsity career. She is within three goals of fourth place and four goals of third place on the Terps all-time goal-scoring list.

Walter With Career-High Total Sophomore Caroline Walter (Reilingen, Germany) scored two goals in Maryland's victory over Radford to bring her season total to 19. Her 19 goals this season is a personal single-season high and is tied for the fifth-highest single-season total in school history.

Hohnstine With a 9-0 Record Sophomore goalie Ashley Hohnstine (Oakton, Va.) has recorded a perfect 9-0 record in nine starts this season. She earned her first start in Maryland's 7-0 victory over Massachusetts on Sept. 11 and has started eight of the Terps nine games since then. Hohnstine recorded a career-high six saves in Maryland's victory against Wake Forest on Sept. 25 and earned victories as a starter against Virginia, Duke and James Madison, among others.
Ward Finds The Cage Senior Emily Ward (Ellicott City, Md.) scored her second goal of the season against Radford in Maryland's 7-0 victory. It was her career-high second goal of the season. Ward scored her first goal of the season against Virginia Commonwealth in the season opener on Aug. 29. She now has more goals this season (two) than she did during the first three years of her career combined (one). She has totaled five points this season (two goals and one assist) in 11 after totaling three points as a freshman, sophomore and junior combined in 31 games.
Kelly Scores First Of Season Sophomore Megan Kelly (Gaithersburg, Md.) scored her first goal of the season against Radford. It was the fourth goal of her career after she scored three goals as a freshman in 1998. Kelly has played in 14 games this season (after playing in 16 as a freshman) and earned 12 starting assignments (after starting only six as a freshman). She has scored one goal on only three shots this season.
Smith Named Player of the Week Junior Keli Smith (Selinsgrove, Pa.) was named the ACC Player of the Week on Oct. 4 for her performances in Maryland's victories against Duke and Virginia. She scored one goal and added one assist in Maryland's 3-1 victory over Duke on Sept. 29 and chipped in with two assists in Maryland's 3-2 victory over Virginia on Oct. 2. It marked the second time during her career that she had earned ACC Player of the Week honors. She also earned the honor for the week of Sept. 7, 1998.
Smith Stays Hot Junior Keli Smith recorded four assists in Maryland's three victories last week to bring her season total to 13. She recorded two assists in Maryland's victories against No. 10 James Madison and Rutgers and added one against Radford. Smith also scored an unassisted goal against Rutgers to bring her point total for the week to seven. Her 13 assists this season is her personal single-season career-high and is tied for the ninth-highest total in school history.
Hiskins Enjoying Finest Season Junior Rachel Hiskins (Victoria, Australia) is the team leader in assists (21) and total points (47). She recorded her 21st assist of the season as Maryland defeated Radford. Her 21 assists rank as the third-highest single-season total in school history while her 47 points rank as tied for the fifth-highest total in school history. Hiskins totaled two assists and six total points in 22 games as a full-time starter in 1998 as a sophomore.

Palchinsky Starts Sophomore Kristy Palchinsky (Leonardtown, Md.) started all three of Maryland's victories last week to bring her season games started-total to 10. Palchinsky has started more games this season (10) than she played in during her freshman season (six). She has scored six goals this season and totaled 12 points. She scored her career-high of two goals against Ball State in the championship game of the Terrapin Invitational on Sept. 19.
Rizzo Remains Steady Sophomore Dina Rizzo (Walpole, Mass.) has been one of Maryland's steadiest players this season. She has started in all 15 games and has totaled seven points this season.

2 Freshman Carissa Messimer (Mountaintop, Pa.) has scored two game-winning goals this season. She scored the game-winning goal as Maryland defeated Virginia on Oct. 2 and scored the game-winner against Georgetown on Sept. 18.
2 Maryland is ranked No. 2 in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Poll dated Oct. 5.
3.5 Senior tri-captain Zoe Ehrlich (Montclair, N.J.) earned a shared shutout in Maryland's victory against Radford. She has now been credited with a single-season career-high 3.5 shutouts.
6 Maryland has scored 93 goals this season and needs only six more to break the single-season team record of 98 that was set during the 1997 season.
10 Redshirt freshman Angie Klingerman (Bloomsburg, Pa.) scored her 10th goal of the season against Radford on Oct. 10.
11 Senior tri-captain Zoe Ehrlich recorded one save in 35 minutes of play last week to bring her season save total to 11. She is only three saves from tying her single-season career-best 14 saves during the 1998 season.
12 Maryland has won 12 consecutive games which is only three from tying the school-record for consecutive wins.
13 Maryland has scored 13 goals twice this season (against Virginia Commonwealth on Aug. 29 and Georgetown on Sept. 18) to establish a team record for goals in a single game.
15 Maryland has won 15 games this season. The school-record for single-season victories is 21 during the 1993 season.
16 A total of 16 players who have earned playing time for the Terps this season have total at least one offensive point.
37 Junior Sarah Rappolt (West Chester, Pa.) has played in 37 consecutive games during the last two seasons. She played in all 22 as a sophomore and has played in all 15 games this season.
