Wake Forest Defeats Maryland in Volleyball Action

COLLEGE PARK, MD. - Trina Maso de Moya smashed a match-high 25 kills and posted a match-high 27 digs, leading Wake Forest (19-6, 6-4 ACC) to a 17-15, 15-9, 8-15, 17-15 win over Maryland (10-14, 3-7 ACC) in volleyball action tonight at Ritchie Coliseum. Wake Forest rallied from game-point down in both the first and fourth games in securing the victory.

Maryland was up 14-13 and 15-14 in the first game, but was unable to close out the Deacons, who rallied for the 17-15 win. In the second game, the Terps were up 6-4 but Wake Forest went on an 11-3 tear to win 15-9.

The Terps came out storming in the third game, bolting to a 12-5 lead on their way to a 15-8 win. It appeared that Maryland would force a fifth and deciding game, as they had game point at 14-11. Wake Forest, however, turned back the Terps on three separate occasions and went on to seal the match with a 17-15 win.

Also posting a double-double for Wake Forest was Sharon Harmsworth, who had 11 kills and 19 digs. Julie Cowley had a match-high 67 assists.

For Maryland, Beth Murphy posted 18 kills and 12 digs, Kate Hannas turned in 13 kills and 19 digs, and Maren Stuart recorded 12 kills. Libby Alberts tallied 54 assists.

Maryland closes out its home schedule tomorrow against Florida State at 5 p.m. It will mark the final home match for Murphy and Hannas.
