Maryland Notches Largest Margin Of Victory In Series History

The victory matches Maryland's largest ever against the Tar Heels. Maryland recorded a 38-0 victory in 1989.
Maryland, third in the nation in turnover margin entering the game, recorded seven takeaways while giving up just one fumble with 3:38 left in the contest. Maryland has given the ball away just six times all season, the lowest total in the country. The Terps boast a +2.28 turnover margin per game (22 takeaways, 6 giveaways).
Among Maryland's three interceptions and four fumble recoveries was Lewis Sanders' sixth interception in seven games. The Thorpe Award candidate entered the game as the ACC leader in interceptions, tying him for third in the country.
In Maryland's five wins, the Terps have shutout the opponent in 15 out of 20 quarters played.

Junior running back LaMont Jordan continued his assault on the Maryland record book:

-- Through 28 games in his career, Jordan has 2,450 yards to move past Rick Badanjek in third place among Maryland career rushers. He has 855 yards this season, just 145 yards shy of becoming the fourth 1,000-yard rusher in Maryland history.
-- Jordan has 13 rushing touchdowns this season, just two shy of the Maryland record of 15 (Rick Badanjek, 1984 and Bob Shemonski, 1950.
-- Jordan entered the game ranked fourth in the nation in scoring (12.0), 12th in rushing (110.0) and 15th in all-purpose yards (151.0). He matched or eclipsed his average in all three categories with exactly 12 points, 147 rushing yards and 153 all-purpose yards.
Brian Kopka's 39-yard field goal was his longest of the season. He is 9-of-12 on the season.
Maryland's five sacks are the most by the Terps this season.
