COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland field hockey team (17-1, 4-0 ACC), which won the ACC regular season championship with a 2-1 double-overtime victory over No. 5 North Carolina on Oct. 23, closes out its regular season as it travels to play Richmond on Nov. 1 at 3 p.m. The Terps have played the Spiders 14 times in school history and hold a 13-0-1 advantage for a .964 winning percentage. Following Maryland's game against the Spiders, the Terps enter the 1999 ACC Tournament as the No. 1 seed.

Terps Win ACC Regular Season Championship
Maryland won its third ACC regular-season title as it defeated North Carolina, 2-1 in double overtime, on Oct. 23. The Terps' victory over Tar Heels gave the team a 4-0 conference mark. It marked the first time since 1993 that the Terps had won the regular season ACC title. Maryland also won the ACC regular season championship in 1991.
Terps Tie Consecutive Wins Record
Maryland has won 15 consecutive games entering its' matchup against Richmond on Nov. 1. The Terps' 15-game winning streak ties the school record which was set during the 1993 season. Maryland has outscored its opponents 91-16 and posted five shutouts during the streak.

Terps Establish School Record For Goals
Maryland has scored a school-record 105 goals this season. The Terps broke the record of 98 in their victory over Princeton on Oct. 15. Junior Keli Smith (Selinsgrove, Pa.) scored the record-breaker against Princeton as she scored Maryland's sixth goal in its 8-2 victory over the Tigers. Maryland's 1997 team scored 98 goals.
Walter In Overtime
Sophomore Caroline Walter (Reilingen, Germany) scored the game-winning goal against North Carolina on Oct. 23 during the second overtime period. It marked her first game-winning overtime goal during her career.
Current Terps In Overtime
Maryland is 4-1 in overtime games during the last three seasons. Junior Carla Tagliente (Cortland, N.Y.) has scored two overtime game winners while Rachel Hiskins (Victoria, Australia) has scored one.

Smith Assists
Junior Keli Smith has recorded a career-high 16 assists this season. Smith's 16 total assists this season rank third on the team this season and ranks tied as the seventh-highest single-season total in school history. Smith recorded six total assists as a freshman and sophomore.
Walter Has 20 Goals
Sophomore Caroline Walter has scored a career-high 20 goals this season. Her 20 goals ranks tied for the third highest single-season total in school history. In addition, she became one of only five players to score 20 or more goals in a single season when she scored the game-winner against North Carolina on Oct. 23. Walter's 20 goals this season are more than twice as many as she scored as a freshman, nine, while her 47 total points is nearly three times as many as she scored during her inaugural collegiate season, 13.
Tagliente Continues to Roll
Junior Carla Tagliente scored one goal against North Carolina to bring her 1999 season total to 14. She has scored nine goals in Maryland's last six games and recorded hat tricks against both James Madison (Oct. 5) and Rutgers (Oct. 9). Tagliente's 14 goals this season brings her career total to 50 and makes her only the fifth Terp in school history to score 50 ore more goals.

Junior Rachel Hiskins has been credited with 57 total points this season. Her career-best total ranks as the third-highest single-season total in school history. Hiskins Is Player Of The Week
Junior midfielder Rachel Hiskins was named the ACC Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 11-17. She recorded six assists in two games as Maryland defeated two nationally-ranked opponents. It marked the league-leading second time this season that she has earned the weekly honor.
Rizzo On The Assist
Sophomore Dina Rizzo (Walpole, Mass) recorded an assist on the game-winning goal in Maryland's victory over North Carolina. She was credited with the assist on Caroline Walter's game-winner in the second sudden-victory overtime period. Rizzo has now been credited with a career-high five assists this season. She has recorded assists in two of Maryland's last three games (against Princeton and North Carolina) and has totaled a near career-high 11 points this season. She scored her single-season career-high of 13 points as a freshman in 1998.
Palchinsky Earns Starting Role
Sophomore Kristy Palchinsky (Leonardtown, Md.) has started each of Maryland's last six games and has started a career-high 14 games this season. She has scored seven of her career-high eight goals as a starter and ranks eighth on the Terps in total points this season. She scored her single-game career-high of two goals in Maryland's victories over Ball State (Sept. 19) and Old Dominion (Oct. 17). She has eight goals this season. As a freshman in 1998, Palchinsky did not score a goal or an assist in six games.
Senkler In The Starting Lineup
Sophomore Carol Senkler (Hockessin, Del.) has scored a career-high two goals and been credited with a career-high five total points this season. She has started each of Maryland's last five games and has now started 20 games during her two seasons as a Terp. Senkler total a single-game high of two points in Maryland's victories over Virginia Commonwealth (Aug. 29) and Ball State (Sept. 19).
Hot Hohnstine
Sophomore Ashley Hohnstine (Oak Hill, Va.) has allowed only one goal in her last four outings. She has started nine consecutive games and won all nine. For the season, she has a 12-0 record in 12 starts. During her last four outings (all victories) she has allowed only one goal in 235 minutes for a goals against average of 0.30. She recorded a career-high 10 saves in shutting out Old Dominion (Oct. 17) and held No. 5 North Carolina to one goal in 95 minutes of playing time. She held North Carolina scoreless on eight shots in 20 minutes of overtime against the Tar Heels.
Messimer Making Her Mark
Freshman Carissa Messimer (Mountaintop, Pa.) is one of seven Terp players who has totaled 20 or more points this season. She has scored 10 goals and added two assists. Messimer has worked her way into the starting lineup and has earned the starting call in eight of the last nine games and 11 times during the season. She totaled a career-high seven total points (three goals and one assist) against Towson on Sept. 15.
