COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Game notes following Maryland's 25-22 loss to Duke.
MARYLAND
LaMont Jordan carried 24 times for a career-best 227 yards, the third-best rushing game in Terrapin history. It was his third career-high in four games.
Jordan became the fourth player in Maryland history, and the first since 1982, to rush for 1,000 yards in a season. After eight games, he has 1,082 yards on 182 carries. With three games to play, his total is already the fourth-best single season figure in Terrapin history and 277 shy of the Maryland record (1,359 by Charlie Wysocki in 1980).
In five games at Byrd Stadium this year, Jordan has 873 yards on 116 carries, with 10 touchdowns.
Jordan ran for 100 yards for the fifth time this season, the ninth time in the last 13, and the 12th time in his career. Jordan's 73-yard run in the second quarter was the longest of his career.
Maryland's third quarter safety (intentional grounding in the end zone by Duke QB Spencer Romine) was the first safety recorded by the Terrapins since 1992 vs. Georgia Tech.
DUKE
Duke's Spencer Romine was 27-42 passing, for a career-high 404 yards. His previous personal best was 303 yards vs. Northwestern in 1998.
It was the first time a Duke QB threw for more than 400 yards since Dave Brown threw for 479 against Wake Forest in 1989.
Blue Devil kicker Sims Lenhardt booted a pair of extra-points and a 32-yard field goal to establish a new Duke career scoring mark. He has 239 points to pass former Blue Devil receiver Clarkston Hines (1986-89, 234). He has converted a school record 61 consecutive PATs.
Duke's 69-yard TD pass in the second quarter was the longest career pass for Romine and the longest career reception for Richmond Flowers.
Flowers had a career receiving day with eight catches for 173 yards. It was the fifth 100-yard receiving game of his career.
