COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Junior forward Keli Smith (Selinsgrove, Pa.) was named the Atlantic Coast Conference field hockey Player of the Week for her performances in Maryland's victories over No. 12 Duke and No. 8 Virginia. Smith scored one goal and added two assists for four total points as Maryland raised its record to 11-1 overall and 3-0 in the ACC.
In Maryland's game against Duke, Smith scored the game-winning goal in the Terps' 3-1 victory. Smith was again a key factor as Maryland defeated Virginia, 3-2. She recorded a career-high tying two-assists including a pass which set-up the game-winning goal.
This season, Smith has more assists (nine) than she had during her first two seasons in College Park (six). She has also scored seven goals this season. Smith has totaled as many points (23) through 12 games this season as she did over the course of last season's 22-game schedule (23).
It marks the second time during her career that she has earned ACC Player of the Week honors. She also earned the honor for her play during the week of Sept. 1-7, 1998.
