Women's Volleyball Falls to Georgia Tech, 3-2

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets ended Maryland's 19-match home win streak Friday evening, defeating the Terps in five games, 15-13, 15-7, 10-15, 9-15, 15-13. The Terps had not lost a home match since Oct. 9, 1996, and had not lost a home regular-season loss since a 3-0 loss to Duke on Oct. 7, 1994.
The 18 kills of junior outside hitter Beth Murphy and the 15 kills of sophomore outside hitter Katie Jentes led the Terps on offense. Murphy led all hitters with a .229 hitting percentage. Freshman setter Libby Alberts tossed up 47 assists and recorded a team-high 16 digs.
Down 2-0, the Terps fought back, holding the Yellow Jackets to a .125 and .138 hitting percentages in game three and four, respectively. The Terps rebounded from a dismal .065 hitting percentage in game two to hit a match-high .276 in game three.
Teryl Townsend who hit .435 and pounded down 12 kills led Georgia Tech. Maja Pachale totaled a team-high 16 kills.
Maryland falls to 7-6 overall, 1-2 in the ACC while Georgia Tech improves to 13-6 overall, 3-1 in ACC play.
Maryland hosts Clemson Saturday night at 5:00 p.m. in Ritchie Coliseum.
