COLLEGE PARK, Md. - On Dec. 12, the Terps travel to Baltimore for their annual wrestle-off with Coppin State. Last season, in a doubleheader that also included Howard, the Terps were victorious, 31-9. All returning Terp starters were winners in last seasons match, including Guzzio, Weidman, Mark Mansueto (West Chester, Pa.), Ted Harlan (Glenmore, Pa.), and Chad Masemer (Littlestown, Pa.).
Junior Marty Kusick leads the Eagles this season after a strong fourth place showing at East Stroudsburg. Although Sidney Billups is expected to redshirt this season, seniors Omar Mann (125) and Kenneth Hunter (Hwt.) will be tough challenges for the Terps.
UNDERCLASSMEN COME ALIVE AT PRESEASON TOURNAMENTS
Joe Guzzio and Josh Weidman led the way for the Terrapins at the East Stroudsburg Open on Nov. 21 with fifth place finishes in the 125 and 165 pound divisions respectively. The duo each topped Ivy Leaguers to place as Guzzio defeated Kevin El-Hayek of Harvard, 8-3, while Weidman out-muscled Princetons Ryan Bonfiglio, 4-2. Also for Maryland, senior captain Ted Harlan, at 149 pounds, and sophomore Mark Mansueto, at 141, each finished sixth.
Freshman Jake Stork (Mohrsville, Pa.) and redshirt freshman Rob Booth (Atco, N.J.) have been solid. Stork took first at the Coppin Open and fourth at the West Virginia Open, while Booth has compiled a strong 9-6 mark and a top eight finish at West Virginia.
