COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Named today as the first women's golf coach in University of Maryland athletics history, Jason Rodenhaver undertakes the task of leading a brand new program that will launch next fall.
Rodenhaver is currently the assistant men's golf coach at Maryland and an assistant golf professional at the University of Maryland Golf Course which is the home course to the men's, and now women's, collegiate programs. Effective Dec. 7, he assumes full-time responsibility for the women's team.
"Clearly, Jason is well qualified and the best fit for his role of our new head coach. Given his level of familiarity with the university and the local golf community, he will jump start on our women's golf program, with the long range goal of becoming a top 20 team. Women's golf is our 13th sport for female student-athletes. It's addition is the capstone to our six-year gender equity plan."
A two-year team captain of the Maryland golf team and a participant in the NCAA East Regional in 1994, Rodenhaver has coached with the Terrapin men's program since 1995. He is the Terps' recruiting coordinator while overseeing budgetary operations and fundraising responsibilities.
On the course, he has co-directed Maryland's summer camp for junior golfers the last three years, and was tournament director of the State Farm Collegiate Players Tour, held at the University of Maryland Golf Course, from 1994 to 1997.
