Terrapin Field Hockey Dominates ACC Stats

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Sophomore midfielder Carla Tagliente (Cortland, N.Y.), sophomore forward Keli Smith (Selinsgrove, Pa.), freshman midfielder Caroline Walter (Reilingen, Germany) and sophomore goalie Zoe Ehrlich (Morristown, N.J.) have emerged as the ACC statistical leaders after the first of the 1998 field hockey season.
Tagliente, last seasons ACC Rookie of the Year, leads the ACC with eight points and is tied for Smith, who was just named the ACC Player of the Week, with three goals. Walter leads the ACC with five assists while Ehrlich, on the strength of an eight-save performance against Richmond last week, leads the ACC in save percentage (1.000) and is tied with Nicole Frey of North Carolina in goals against average (0.00).
Sophomore back Molly Kauffman (West Lawn, Pa.) is second in the ACC with seven points and sophomore goalie Angela Platt, who recorded 15 saves against Michigan on Saturday, is second save percentage (.923) and third in goals against average (0.75).
Maryland (3-0) is currently ranked sixth in the NFHCA poll. Their next game is on Sunday at Rutgers at 1 p.m.
