COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Seniors Christine DeBow (West Chester, Pa.) and Carolyn Schwarz (Gaithersburg, Md.) and former Terp Katie Kauffman (Reading, Pa.) have been named to the 1998 U.S. World Cup Field Hockey team. Freshman Carla Tagliente (Cortland, N.Y.) has been named as an alternate. The World Cup for field hockey is a quadrennial event and this year's 12 team tournament will be held May 20-31 in Utrecht, Netherlands. DeBow is a three-time first-team All America midfielder and a four-time All-ACC selection. She was a member of the U.S. National Team last year. Schwarz, a back, was named to the Mideast Region All-America Team following her final season of college field hockey last fall. Like DeBow, she was also on the 1997 U.S. National Team. Kauffman was a two-time first-team All-America back and concluded her collegiate career in 1996. She was a member of the 1996 U.S. Olympic team as well as last year's U.S. National Team. Tagliente, a forward, concluded her first season at Maryland by earning ACC Rookie of the Year honors and being named a third-team All-American. She was the youngest member on last year's U.S. National Team. Maryland assistant coach Steve Simpson, who was a coach on last year's U.S. National Team, returns as an assistant this year.
