College Park, Md. - The University of Maryland will play host to the second annual Kicks Against Breast Cancer soccer tournament April 18-19 at Ludwig Field. Joining the Terrapins at the charity event will be seven top collegiate women's teams. The highlight of this super soccer weekend will take place on Saturday, April 18 when Maryland meets the College of William and Mary at 7 p.m. in the first game of the tournament's feature doubleheader under the lights. George Mason University and the University of Virginia meet in the nightcap at 8:15 p.m. Other teams in the field include Ohio State, Navy and Northwestern.
The Kicks Against Breast Cancer Tournament honors the memory of Claudia Mayer, who died of breast cancer on Nov. 1, 1996 at the age of 47. Claudia was a woman who displayed extraordinary courage as she battled the disease that eventually took her life.
Proceeds from the Kicks Against Breast Cancer Tournament will be donated to the Howard County General Hospital's Claudia Mayer Cancer Resource and Image Center.
