Four Field Hockey Players Named to NFHCA Team

College Park, MD.--Seniors Kasey Heiser (Schafferstown, Pa.) and Ellen Wolf (Wyomissing, Pa.), junior Emily Ward (Ellicott City, Md.) and sophomore Carla Tagliente (Cortland, N.Y.) have been named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) National Academic Team. In order to be eligible for the team, a student-athlete must have earned significant playing time during the current season and have maintained a cumulative GPA of at least 3.3.
Heiser makes the team for the third consecutive year. In her first season as a full-time starter, she scored eight goals and tallied four assists. She has also been named to the ACC Honor Roll three consecutive years.
Wolf makes the team for the second consecutive season. She has been one of the Terps' top reserves the past four years. She has also made the ACC Honor Roll three consecutive years.
Ward makes the team for second consecutive season. This year, she scored her first career goal and recorded her first career assist. She has also made the ACC Honor Roll three consecutive years, having redshirted during the 1995 season
Tagliente makes her first appearance on the team. She led the Terps in scoring this season with 17 goals and 41 points. She was just named to the Mid Atlantic Region All-America team for the second straight season. Last year, Tagliente made her first appearance on the ACC Honor Roll.
The NFHCA its National Academic Team at the conclusion of each season. Maryland finished the 1998 campaign with a 16-6 record, won its second-ever ACC championship and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament.
