COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Maryland's 1973 Peach Bowl team is slated to be honored in pre-game and halftime ceremonies at Maryland's ACC football game vs. Wake Forest Saturday.
Kickoff for the game at Byrd Stadium in College Park is 1 p.m.
Approximately 45 members of the '73 team -- including head coach Jerry Claiborne, All- Americans Randy White and Paul Vellano, and quarterback Bob Avellini -- will be in attendance as Terp fans celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Terps' '73 ACC championship and bowl appearance.
Maryland's '73 team posted an 8-3 record -- its best mark since 1955 -- and made the school's first bowl appearance since '55. The '73 team started a 21-game ACC winning streak with a 37-0 win over Wake Forest.
White was a first team AP All-American, Vellano earned similar honors from the American Football Coaches Association.
Maryland won the ACC title in '73, the first of three consecutive league championships for the Terps. Claiborne, who served 10 seasons (1972-81) as head coach, led the Terps to three ACC titles, seven bowl games and five Top 20 rankings during his tenure.
The '73 team, which lost to Georgia 17-16 in the Peach Bowl, finished the year ranked No. 20 in the nation.
