Pratt, Smith Named to All-ACC Field Hockey Team

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Senior back Jen Pratt (Greene, N.Y.) and sophomore midfielder Carla Tagliente (Cortland, N.Y.) have been named to the 1998 All-ACC field hockey team. In addition, Maryland head coach Missy Meharg has been named the 1998 ACC Coach of the Year.
Pratt makes her second consecutive appearance on the All-ACC team. She led the Terps with 18 assists this season and is the ACC's all-time leader with 71 career assists. Pratt paced a backfield that shut out eight opponents this season, including four nationally ranked teams. She is a two-time All-America selection, having earned third-team honors in 1996 and second-team honors last season.
Smith makes her first appearance on the All-ACC team. She scored ten goals and had 21
Meharg is the ACC Coach of the Year for the third time in her career. She also earned the award in 1992 and 1997. In 11 years at Maryland, she has compiled a record of 162-53-9, led the Terps into the NCAA Tournament eight times, the ACC title in 1992 and the NCAA title in 1993.
Maryland (14-5, 3-1 ACC) takes on North Carolina at noon tomorrow in the first round of the ACC Tournament in Charlottesville. Should they win tomorrow, the Terps would advance to the finals on Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
