Women's Volleyball Swept by Duke

DURHAM, N.C. - The Duke volleyball team posted a 15-5, 15-12, 15-2 win over defending ACC regular-season champs, Maryland, in the league opener for both squads on Friday night at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Duke improves to 6-5, 1-0 ACC, while Maryland drops to 5-5, 0-1 ACC.
After taking a 1-0 advantage, the Blue Devils rallied from a 12-6 deficit in the second game to post a 15-12 decision. Duke kept the momentum in the final game, holding the Terps to 17 total points in the contest.
Duke was led by junior outside hitter Sarah Peifer (Tampa, Fla.) with 17 kills and 16 digs. She also added two assists and two service aces. Freshman setter Pam Gottfred (Golf, Ill.) registered 31 assists and seven kills. Maryland was led by Katie Jentes and Beth Murphy with six kills each and setter Libby Alberts chipped in 15 assists.
