Women's Volleyball Falls To North Carolina

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Carolina women's volleyball made it two wins in two days as they downed Maryland in three games (15-11, 15-9, 15-11). Carolina earned five of its first game points off service aces and never looked back to take the first game 15-11. The second game, the Terrapins started strong taking an early lead, but could not hold on as the Heels quickly came back to win 15-9.

The third and final game looked as if it would be all Tar Heels as the squad jumped out to an early 7-1 lead. Once again, the Terrapins fought back, led by five consecutive service aces by Senior Jaime Summers. Strong defensive play by the kept the Heels in the game as they were able to hold on to take the third game 15-11.

The Tar Heels were led by junior Tori Seibert who had 12 kills, 10 digs and four total blocks on the night. Senior Maya Starks added 12 kills and digs of her own along with 2 service aces and one block. Maryland struggled offensively finishing the match with a .097 hitting percentage. Summers added 10 kills and five total blocks to her five service aces for the Terrapins. Freshman setter Libby Alberts finished the evening with 31 assists.

Carolina's win keeps them on top of the ACC with a 6-0 record a 17-3 overall mark. Maryland drops to 8-8 and 2-4 in the ACC. With the victory, the Tar Heels' winning streak improves to 13, and keeps them undefeated in Carmichael Auditorium (11-0). The Heels are on the road for the next two matches as they travel to Duke (6-9, 1-4 ACC) Tuesday at 7:30 p.m., and then to Wake Forest (13-4, 2-2 ACC) Friday at 7:00 p.m.
