
Field Hockey Appears in NFHCA Preseason Poll

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NHFCA) has released their 1998 NCAA Division I preseason poll, and the Maryland Terrapins start the season ranked sixth. Virginia earned the top position, followed by Old Dominion, Princeton, North Carolina and Penn State.
Maryland opens up their 1998 season on Sept. 2 at home against Richmond at 7:30 p.m. Senior All-America back Jen Pratt (Greene, N.Y.), sophomore All-America midfielder Carla Tagliente (Cortland, N.Y.) and sophomore Mid-Atlantic All-American forward Keli Smith (Selinsgrove, Pa) are the top returning players for the Terps.
The complete NHFCA preseason poll is as follows:

Starting Sept. 15, the NHFCA will release their poll each Tuesday by 1 p.m. The final poll of the year will be released Nov. 10.
