May 4, 1998

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Carol Senkler (Hickessin, Del. / The Tower Hill School) who earlier this year signed a letter of intent to play field hockey at Maryland has been awarded a four-year Presidential Scholarship by the University. The Presidential Scholarship is awarded based on an incoming freshman's GPA , completion of advanced level classes, test scores and leadership abilities in extra-curricular activities.

Senkler led the Tower Hill School to the state championship last fall. She scored 22 goals and was named to the South Region High School All-American team. Senkler is also a three-time first team All-State selection.

At Maryland, Senkler will be enrolled in the honors program and plans on majoring in life science.

Last season, Maryland finished the season 18-4 and advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals.
