Women's Volleyball Falls to ACC-Leading North Carolina

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland volleyball team was defeated by the University of North Carolina for the first time since Oct. 6, 1995 as the Tar Heels posted a straight sets 15-7, 15-11, 15-11 win at Ritchie Coliseum before a crowd of 404 on Friday night.
Maryland (8-11, 2-7) was led by Beth Murphy who piled up a team-high 13 kills and a .219 hitting percentage, along with 10 digs. Jaime Summers had a well-rounded game as she had nine kills and hit .563, along with 11 digs. Kim Adolphs had a team-high 16 digs and eight kills. At the setter position, Katarina Bridova saw extensive playing time and tallied 29 assists, while Libby Alberts had 10 assists. For the match, Maryland hit .115, and recorded 43 kills and 66 digs.
ACC-leading North Carolina (20-4, 8-1) jumped out to a strong start, hitting .556 in the first game led by Tori Seibert, who finished with a team-high 11 kills and hit .455 in the match. Setter Erin Berg led the team with 28 assists and 14 digs. Maya Starks also had six kills and 15 digs.
Maryland returns to action on Saturday night as they host the NC State Wolfpack at 5:00 p.m.
