Women's Volleyball Opens Season with Win

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland redshirt freshman Katie Cramer and junior middle hitter Kate Hannas each pounded 14 kills to lead the Terrapins to a 15-11, 15-13, 11-15, 15-7 win over the Villanova Wildcats in the first match of the season for both teams. Cramer led the Terps on offense, hitting .650 on the evening (14K, 1E, 20TA) while Hannas hit .417. Hannas' 14 kills marked a career-high, erasing her old total of 12 she set a year ago against Georgetown. Cramer and Hannas also led the Terps at the net, posting four blocks apiece.
Freshman setter Libby Alberts, playing for the first time in a Maryland uniform, posted 60 assists and had seven digs. Senior Jaime Summers and junior Beth Murphy tallied a team-high 15 kills each with Summers leading the Terrapins on defense with 15 digs.
Maryland travels to Washington, D.C. this weekend to participate at the Georgetown Invitational. The Terps meet Michigan on Friday, Sept. 4 at noon. On Saturday, Maryland will tackle Temple at noon and host Georgetown at 6 p.m.
The Terps return to Ritchie Coliseum next Tuesday evening, Sept. 8, to host UMBC at 7 p.m.
