Kauffman, DeBow and Tagliente to Compete in Pan Am Games

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Former Maryland field hockey standouts Kate Kauffman (West Lawn, Pa.) and Christine DeBow (West Chester, Pa.) and current junior Carla Tagliente (Cortland, N.Y.) will be on the U.S. National Field Hockey Team when it competes in the Pan American Games July 25-Aug. 4 in Winnipeg, Canada. The U.S. team begins the tournament by facing Trinidad & Tobago on Sunday, July 25 at 3 p.m. MST.
For Kauffman, it marks her fourth consecutive year on the U.S. National Team. In 1996, she became the first Maryland player to compete in the Olympic Games, which were held that year in Atlanta. In addition, Kauffman was on the U.S. squad when it took part in the 1997 Champions Trophy Tournament (held in Berlin) and the 1998 World Cup (held in the Netherlands).
Kauffman was a two-time All-America back during her career at Maryland (1992-96). She was on the Terps? 1993 NCAA championship team and in 1996, she was a finalist for the Broderick Award, which is given annually to the top collegiate field hockey player.
Having been on the U.S. National Team since 1997, DeBow also took part in the 1997 Champions Trophy Tournament and the 1998 World Cup. During her career at Maryland (1994-97), she was a three-time All-America midfielder and was a 1997 finalist for the Broderick Award.
Tagliente is making her second appearance on the U.S. National Team, having also played in the 1997 Champions Trophy Tournament. Heading into her junior season at Maryland, she is already a two-time All-America forward/ midfielder. This past January, she was named a GTE Academic All-America.
