Maryland Women's Golf Improves On Second Day Of Competition

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Maryland women's golf team, competing in its first ever event, improved its overall team score by nine strokes and moved up one place in the team standings during the second day of the Unlimited Potential/Baytree Classic at the Baytree Plantation Golf Club here Saturday. Freshman Brooke Bendler was the low scorer for the Terps as she shot a personal tournament best 77 and moved up from a tie for 92nd place into a tie for 68th place.
The event is the first ever for the Terp women's golf program that was established in 1998. The team moved into 22nd place that was a move up of one place from their 23rd place finish on Friday.
Maryland shot a combined score of 337 on day one and returned Saturday to shoot a 328 for a total of 665. The Terps nine-stroke improvement on day two was the third best among the 24 teams in the three-day event. Only James Madison (15 strokes better) and Wofford (12 stokes better) showed more improvement from day one to day two.
Bendler shot a team-low 77 to post a seven-stroke improvement from her score on Friday. She was one of three Terps to improve her score on the second day of competition. Also improving were freshman Carter Crowther (a three stroke difference from an 85 to an 82) and junior Sarah Bedford (a three-stroke improvement from a 91 to an 88). Freshman Jennifer Gibson maintained a consistent score and has shot an 81 on both days.
