COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Spearheading a 33-point afternoon and back-to-back games totaling 84 points, Maryland junior LaMont Jordan ran for a career-best 164 yards on 22 carries while solidifying his candidacy for the Doak Walker national running back award. For his performance, Jordan was named this week as USA TODAY.com's player of the week for the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Jordan scored his fourth touchdown in two weeks on a seven-yard run early in the second quarter. Jordan's workhorse efforts led a Maryland offense which scored on six of eight possessions from the start of the second quarter.
The Terrapin back surpassed the century mark for the second straight game and the sixth time in his last eight games. Jordan has nine career 100-yard efforts and moved within just 42 yards of becoming the second junior and seventh player in Maryland history to reach the 2,000-yard plateau. His 1,958 yards moved him three rungs up the Maryland career rushing ladder into seventh all-time.
