Terps Women's Golf Team Maintains Consistency With Strong Finish

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - The Maryland women's golf team shot a 330 (+42) in the final round of the Northern Arizona Lumberjack Women's Invitational at the Aspen Valley Country Club here Tuesday. The round of 330 is the second-lowest team round in the two-tournament history of the team. The Terps finished 13th among the 17 teams entered in the tournament as they completed only their second event in school history.
The Terps' 330 score on the par 72 course is rivaled only by the 328 score which the team shot in the second round of last week's Unlimited Potential/Baytree Classic in Myrtle Beach. Maryland improved its score by six strokes from first round finish in today's action. The Terps maintained their consistency as they finished day one on 13th place and finished the tournament in the same position.
Freshman Jennifer Gibson (Havertown, Pa.) led the Terps with a two-day total of 161 (+17). Gibson finished in a tie for 17th place which ranks as the highest individual finish for any of the members of the team in the first two tournaments.
She was followed by freshman Brooke Bendler (Salisbury, Md.) who shot a 163 (+19) and improved by one stroke on the second day of competition. Freshmen Erin Clasper (N. Potomac, Md.) and Carter Crowther (Kilmarnock, Va.) recorded the best individual improvements from day one to day two with both golfers bettering their scores by six strokes. Junior Sarah Bedford (Gaithersburg, Md.) shot a 177 (+33) for the event.
Maryland continues its schedule at the Nittany Lion Women's Invitational on Oct. 1-3.
