COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Freshman midfielder Meredith McClure's
(Springfield, Va.) header off a cross from Beth McNamara (Getzville,
N.Y.) with 17:55 left in regulation lifted James Madison (6-3) to a 2-1
win over host Maryland on Sunday at Ludwig Field. An indirect kick by
Maryland's Jackie Mynarski (Somers, N.Y.) was stopped by James Madison
keeper Suzanne Wilson (Burke, Va.) with just over a minute left in
regulation to secure the victory.
Maryland (3-5-1) opened the game strong as senior forward Julie Nelson
(McLean, Va.) scored her second goal of the season on a header off a
corner kick from freshman defender Lindsay Givens (Downingtown, Pa.)
23:47 into the match.
The Dukes tied the score as senior forward Aimee Grahe (Hagerstown,
Md.) scored her team-high eighth goal off a cross from McNamara at the
63:24 mark.
Maryland outshot James Madison, 12-11 while the Terps' Ali Wolff
(Richmond, Va.) made three saves and Wilson had five stops for the
Dukes.
The Terps return to action as they take on ACC-rival Virginia, ranked
No. 15 by Soccer America and No. 17 by the NSCAA, at Klockner Stadium in
Charlottesville on Wednesday, Sept. 29 at 7:30 p.m.
