
Ayres Leads Women's Volleyball To Win Over Akron

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Freshman outside hitter Amanda Ayres posted a career-high 24 kills, leading Maryland to a four-game win over Akron at the Penn State Classic volleyball tournament today. The scores were 16-14, 15-5, 10-15, 15-11.
Ayres posted a .404 hitting percentage (24-3-52) to led all Maryland starters. Senior outside hitter Beth Murphy posted 21 kills and junior middle hitter Nnenna Amobi added 12 kills. Sophomore setter Libby Alberts posted 65 assists, registered 19 digs and six had six kills.
After squeaking out a two-point win in the opening game, the Terps as a team hit .486 in winning game two by 10 points. Akron rebounded to take the third game and raced out to a 4-0 lead in the fourth game. Maryland, however, went on a 15-6 run to seal the victory.
Maryland takes on Penn State tonight at 8 p.m. in the final game of the Penn State Classic.
