Maryland Women's Gymnastics Team Defeats Towson In First Home Meet

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Sophomore Laura Moon (Scottsdale, Ariz.) took first place in the all-around with a score of 39.075 as the Maryland women's gymnastics team defeated East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) rival Towson 193.550 - 192.225. Maryland's score is the tenth highest score in school history. The Terrapins won in beam and floor exercise and tied for first on vault.
Moon and Towson's Gabi Weller tied for first on vault scoring 9.800. First place also went to Moon in the floor exercise with a 9.775. On beam, sophomore Gillian Cote (Fredericksburg, Va.) led the way with a 9.825. Cote also tied with sophomore Alyssa Mealey (Bensalem, Pa.) for second place on the uneven bars with a score of 9.775. Moon took third on bars scoring a 9.750
Senior co-captain Christine Holcombe (McMurray, Pa.) finished the evening third in the all-around with a 38.825. Holcombe also tied with Weller for second place on floor with a 9.725. Rachel Dolbin (Pottsville, Pa.), also a senior co-captain came in third tying with Towson's Niina Parjanen with a score of 9.675
The Terps, now 1-0 in the EAGL and overall, will take on Arizona State, Stanford and Ohio State in Arizona on Jan.14 at 9:00 p.m. Eastern Standard time.
